Don’t Expect Chat-GPT to Replace Business Copywriters

Chat-GPT, as an artificial intelligence tool, is remarkable! It is a great tool for blog writers, as it can help them in many ways. For example, it can draft ideas, refine language and catch grammatical mistakes. For executives who think that AI-enabled software like Chat-GPT will replace writers, think again!

This AI application, like others recently announced, have significant limitations that preclude the possibility of replacing their human touch, which is integral to engaging writing.

Lack of personal experiences

Despite the press clippings, this much-ballyhooed app is limited in that it cannot use personal experiences or perspectives. It cannot recount experiences, emotions or unique perspectives like a human can. Instead, it relies solely on text. It is unable to convey the uniqueness or originality of a viewpoint based on personal insight or emotions.

Operating on the basis of patterns that it has learned through a large text dataset, Chat-GPS is not conscious, and it has no feelings or personal experience. It does not have a history or emotions. It cannot reflect on the past, have hopes or fears about the future, feel joy or sorrow, or express any other emotion. Its responses are based not on an intrinsic understanding of the world, but on patterns that it observed in data.

The AI program generates responses when you interact with it based on the analysis of your text and extensive training data. It tries to predict the best response based on training and not on how you feel or what you want.

Chat-GPT cannot provide an original or unique viewpoint like a human can. When writing, human writers draw on a rich tapestry woven from their own experiences, emotions, and subjective insights. These elements influence their perspective and voice, giving their writing a unique quality reflecting their individuality.

A writer may recount a personal experience, describe how they felt about a certain situation or share a unique insight that they have developed throughout their lives. These elements can resonate deeply with readers who may see themselves reflected in a writer’s words or gain new insight from their unique perspective.

Chat-GPT, on the other hand, cannot produce this type of content in an authentic way. It can imitate the style of emotional expression or personal narratives based on training data but it does not truly experience or understand these aspects. Its personal stories are not true memories, but fabrications. It is a simulation, not a real experience. Its insights are not based on personal growth, but rather patterns found in data.

Contextual Struggle

The program can also struggle to understand the context. It can understand the context of a text or conversation, but it may miss the more general cues that humans are able to recognize. It could be cultural references, humor or subtle emotions.

Like other AI models it operates on patterns that it has learned through the data on which it was trained. This process does not include an intuitive or innate understanding of larger contexts.

Consider cultural references. Human societies are extremely diverse. Each culture has its own unique traditions, idioms and norms. People who have lived in a particular culture or studied it extensively can use the cultural nuances they learnt to communicate. Chat-GPT on the other hand does not “live” in any culture.

It can mimic cultural references and has been trained using data from different cultures, but it does not truly understand them. It can cause inaccuracies and misrepresentations if the AI tries to use or respond to cultural references.

Chat-GPT is also unable to understand complex humor. Chat-GPT is unable to grasp the subtlety of humor, which relies on timing, cultural context and shared background knowledge. It can also depend on a tone of voice, facial expression or a specific amount of nuance. It can predict that a text will be funny based on its training data. However, it does not “get” a joke like a person. Chat-GPT can sometimes fail to be funny.

There are also nuanced feelings. Humans are able to express and understand a wide range of emotions in subtle, complex and nuanced ways. Human writers can use their own understanding of emotions to craft narratives that evoke specific emotions in readers. They can also infer emotions by reading between the lines.

Chat-GPT does not experience emotions. It can analyze texts for emotional cues, and then generate text that mimics emotion based on its training data. It can’t really understand the complexity and depth of human emotions and its handling of them is therefore limited.

Surely, Chat-GPT is a powerful writer’s tool for many tasks, but it can’t replace the intuitive understanding that comes from human experience and cultural immersion. Although it’s an effective tool for many things, it cannot replace the intuitive understanding gained from cultural immersion and human experience.

Story Inconsistencies

The AI app is also limited in its ability to maintain a constant character, storyline, or theme over multiple sessions. Chat-GPT cannot remember previous requests or inputs past a certain point.

Chat-GPT, like other AI models also operates on a model called ‘stateless.’ It doesn’t remember past interactions outside of the current conversation or session. It effectively forgets the conversation when the session ends. It doesn’t remember past sessions when a new one begins. It doesn’t know who has interacted with or said anything to it in the past.

This statelessness can make it difficult to maintain a consistent storyline or character across sessions. If you use Chat-GPT for a series on blog posts, it will not remember details from previous posts until those details are given in the current session. It will not remember your desired style or tone unless you tell it.

This limitation is even more apparent when crafting a story. Authors can build characters, plotlines and themes with time. They remember past details and add to them in subsequent writing sessions. They can recall the progression of a character or storyline from previous sessions.

Chat-GPT, however, lacks the ability to maintain consistency over time. You would need to give the program relevant information in each session if you were using it to draft a novel. It could generate content inconsistent with previous sessions if you don’t. The traits, backstory or development of a character could change from one session to the next, or the plot could take unexpected twists that are not in line with previous plot developments.

This limitation is why AI, like Chat-GPT, can’t completely replace human writers. It’s a great tool for creating text, and it can be used in a variety of creative ways. However, it doesn’t have the ability to maintain consistency and remember previous writing sessions. The human user is responsible for managing these aspects of writing.

The Ethical Dilemma

Ethics also comes into play. The artificial intelligence program does not understand moral or ethical guidelines. Although safety measures are in place to prevent misuse, an app cannot inherently determine what content is inappropriate, harmful or offensive.

Chat-GPT was created using machine learning. This means that it replicates patterns found in the data used to train it. It does not have a conscious awareness of the world. This includes ethical and moral guidelines. It does not have any feelings, personal convictions, or sense of right and bad. It does not understand the impact of certain content.

Ethics and morality is a complex field, rooted in individual, cultural and societal beliefs and experiences. These are subjective issues that can differ widely between people, cultures, and societies. AI programs cannot understand these factors in depth and nuance, and therefore can’t apply ethical guidelines.

Chat-GPT is able to generate responses that mimic moral or ethical reasoning, but doesn’t understand them. It does not understand why certain actions can be considered right or bad, other than the fact that it’s training data suggests that certain responses will occur more often in certain situations.

This lack of understanding also extends to the inability to determine what content is inappropriate, harmful or offensive. Chat-GPT was designed to have certain safeguards in place that prevent the creation of offensive or harmful content. However, these safeguards do not work perfectly and are based more on general guidelines than an understanding of context.

Chat-GPT, for example, may generate content which is offensive or inappropriate in a certain cultural context because it does not fully understand the norms and sensibilities of that culture. It could create content that is harmful because it does not fully understand how its words will affect readers. It cannot anticipate or understand what a person might feel or think after reading the content that it creates.

While an AI program mimics ethical and moral reasoning, and can be programmed with safeguards to prevent harmful or offensive content from being generated, it does not truly understand ethical or ethical guidelines. It does not know inherently what content is inappropriate, harmful or offensive. These are human understandings that are rooted in emotions, our experiences and social and cultural contexts.

Inability To Adapt Reader Feedback

Chat-GPT, for example, is unable to adapt and understand real-time reader feedback. This is a crucial component of the writing process. Especially for bloggers who rely heavily on feedback from readers to adapt their style, approach, and content to better suit their audience.

They can also read and understand emails, comments on social media, and other feedback. They can gauge reader engagement and understand the sentiments behind the feedback.

The writer can clarify a topic in upcoming posts if readers are unclear about it. The writer can explore a theme in greater depth if readers show a particular interest. This type of adaptable writing can build a more satisfied and engaged audience.

Chat-GPT does not have this feature. It cannot read or understand feedback from readers. It does not know whether readers are confused, engaged, interested or bored by the content that it produces.

It doesn’t know whether readers want to see more content about a particular topic or if it’s too much. It cannot adapt its content to reader feedback, because it does not understand the feedback.

Chat-GPT is only able to respond to feedback within a single chat session. It can only respond to text in the current session. However, it does not understand the true sentiment or intention behind it. It may not be able to fully address a user’s concerns and interests within a session. It is important to keep this in mind when using the app for blog writing. The human writer must adapt and understand the audience’s interests and needs.

Modeling Creativity isn’t Creativity

It’s important to note that while Chat-GPT can produce text that seems creative, its “creativity”, is fundamentally different than human creativity. The AI program doesn’t experience or understand creativity in the same way as humans. Instead, it creates creative text using patterns and structures that it learned from data.

Creativity is often a result of our own personal experiences, feelings, insights and imagination. This is a spontaneous and original process that can produce new perspectives, ideas or artworks that haven’t been seen before. The process is often driven by passion, curiosity, or the desire to express yourself. It can also be influenced and shaped by the creator’s cultural, personal, and social context.

Chat-GPT is not human. It has no personal experiences, feelings, or insights. It does not feel passion or curiosity. It has no personal, cultural or social context. Its “creativity’ is solely based on its ability of analyzing the patterns in text data that it was trained on, and generating new text based upon those patterns.

Chat-GPT does not generate text that is novel or creative because it came up with an original idea or viewpoint. It’s not because Chat-GPT has come up with a new idea or perspective, but rather that it has rephrased or combined the patterns it learned in a novel manner. This can produce text that looks creative but is really output derived from recombination, not original creation.

This limitation has important implications. This means, for one thing, that Chat-GPT is limited in its “creativity”, as it’s based on the data that it was trained with. It cannot come up with new ideas, perspectives, or styles that are not represented in the data it was trained on. This also means the program cannot appreciate or understand the creativity of the text that it creates or responds to. It does not understand why certain metaphors powerful, why certain phrases are clever or why certain narrative twists are surprising.

It is true that Chat-GPT mimics creativity by generating text that looks novel or creative. However, it does not truly understand or experience the concept of creativity. Its “creativity’ is based on the patterns and structures of its training data. Not on original thought or emotions. AI and human creators have a fundamentally different approach.

Technical Shortcomings

Chat-GPT is a system that operates from a set of predefined capabilities, determined by its architecture. Its primary function as an AI language model is to produce human-like texts based on input. It is therefore limited in its ability to answer certain queries. For example, those that require specific calculations, complex operations, or interaction with real-time information or proprietary data.

The program is designed to perform basic arithmetic and solve simple mathematical problems. However, it cannot handle complex mathematical calculations. It does not have a calculator built in or the capability to perform calculations beyond what has been specifically taught. If you asked the app for a complex calculation problem or to perform a sophisticated analysis, it might struggle to give a useful or correct answer.

Second, Chat-GPT cannot interact with the rest of the world in real time. It cannot access real-time information, manipulate external software, or interact with internet data outside of the training data. It can’t give real-time news updates, retrieve the latest information, or interact with databases in live mode. If you are a blogger, and you want to include the latest scores in your blog post, you can’t ask the program to do so because it cannot access real-time data.

Chat-GPT does not have access to confidential or proprietary information. It was trained using a large dataset of publicly accessible text from websites, books and other sources. It does not know about specific documents, databases or confidential sources. Nor can it retrieve or access these data. Chat-GPT, for example, cannot provide information about classified government data, confidential business strategies or personal information about an individual.

It is important to be aware of these limitations when using Chat-GPT. It’s an excellent tool for creating human-like texts, but it cannot perform tasks that are beyond its capabilities. It cannot perform complex calculations, retrieve real-time information, or retrieve proprietary data. Chat-GPT is limited in its capabilities. It’s the responsibility of the user to use it appropriately.

While Chat-GPT is a great tool for bloggers, it cannot replace the unique perspectives and creativity of a human author.
